Tiegerman and Chefs a Successful Pairing
More than 300 guests enjoyed the finest local restaurants to raise money and awareness for those with language & Autism Spectrum disorders.
Great Neck, NY 4/12/19—April 4th, more than 300 guests enjoyed the best bites from some of NYC and Long Island’s finest restaurants. The 18th Annual Chefs for Children Food & Wine Tasting, hosted by Rob Petrone of Verizon Fios1 Long Island’s Restaurant Hunter, celebrated 18 years of bringing together our supporters, families and staff for an exciting night benefitting vital Tiegerman youth and adult programs.
The organization proudly presented Tiegerman High School Principal, Lauren Leonardi Tiegerman Middle School Principal, Kristin Lyons, Tiegerman Pre-School & Elementary School Principal, Karen Katzman, Tiegerman Community Services Director of Adult Services, Tiffany Harkless and Tiegerman Community Services Assistant to Director of Adult Services, Christine Austin, with a “Top Chef” award for their dedication to the success of the extraordinary youth and adults that Tiegerman serves.
“It takes a lot more than just good ingredients and a good recipe to make a delicious meal—the outcome also lies in the hands of the chef whose cooking it,” said Dr. Ellenmorris Tiegerman, CEO of Tiegerman. “We are happy to honor our “Top Chefs” who are amazing on how they set up their “kitchens” They are a part of a dedicated team that make our programs and schools run smoothly, successfully and with passion for the extraordinary kids and adults in our programs.”

In addition to the more than 30 local restaurants who generously provided their best fare, several wine and specialty drink purveyors provided ‘spirit’ to compliment the extraordinary tasting experience. Tiegerman’s High School Technology students paired up with our culinary program to create 3-D printed cookie cutters which were used to create sumptuous cookies. Beautiful prize baskets composed by Tiegerman staff and families were raffled off to the audience, as well as generous grand prizes provided by Tiegerman’s families and Board of Directors.
The Annual Chefs for Children Food & Wine Tasting brings together the richly diverse Tiegerman community with neighbors and local businesses to support the success of youth and adults with language, learning and autism spectrum disorders.

Founded in 1985, Tiegerman (formerly SLCD) is a 501(c)( 3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping children with language, learning and autism spectrum disorders. We provide special education programs for preschool and school age children (K-12) and a complete Adult Services program through Tiegerman Community Services (TCS). Schools and Community centers are located in Long Island and Queens serving all ages throughout the 5 boroughs and Long Island.
