Tiegerman hosts 1st virtual gala to Benefit Schools & Services
Over 100 virtual guests attended Tiegerman's Stronger Together Gala: Celebrating Our Heroes from the comfort of their own home on March 25.
GLEN COVE, NEW YORK – April 8, 2021: Over 100 virtual guests attended Tiegerman's Stronger Together Gala: Celebrating Our Heroes from the comfort of their own home on March 25, 2021. Family members, donors and staff celebrated the students and individuals Tiegerman serves, as well as staff and donors who make Tiegerman’s work possible. Tiegerman recognized and celebrated its staff and honorees who exhibited courage, generosity, and dedication to provide services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tiegerman Stronger Together Gala is one of the main fundraisers aimed at obtaining funds to enable Tiegerman to continue to do what it does best - provide quality services and education to children and adults who have developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. Thank you to the underwriting sponsor the Ficalora Family Foundation. Tiegerman relies on sponsorships and the dedication and commitment of businesses, foundations and individuals. Tiegerman is more than a school or a community-based program, it’s an organization that provides opportunities and resources to enrich the lives of our incredible families.

Phyllis Imbriano has worked with Tiegerman for 21 years, she is the School Nurse at Tiegerman Preschool, Elementary School, UPK and A.L.L. for Kids and the School Nurse Supervisor. She received the Distinguished Service Award. Our school nurses oversee the emotional, mental, and physical health of our students. The Nurse Supervisor works with all of our building nurses overseeing students from preschool to high school. She coordinates with each of our building nurses to maintain basic health services throughout the school day.
Robert Viquez, Tiegerman High School Teacher Assistant, COSA Coordinator received the Resilience Award. The Coordinators Office of Student Activities (COSA) provides the students with programs and extracurricular activities, in support of the mission of Tiegerman High School. COSA assists and empowers students to achieve their highest potential in the field of leadership. COSA works closely with faculty, staff, students, and the community to create a stimulating and inclusive environment that is conducive to the growth and development of our students.

Aaron Simpkins, Tiegerman Community Services, Residence Manager received the Community Award. Tiegerman Community Services (TCS) operates a six bedrooms Individualized Residential Alternative (IRA) in a traditional family style residence. It is a nurturing environment that supports the development of peer relationships and maintains the interactions with primary families. The IRA provides twenty-four hour supervision for developmentally disabled adults with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.

Founded in 1985, Tiegerman (formerly SLCD) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping children with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. We provide special education programs for preschool and school age children (K-12) and a complete Adult Services program through Tiegerman Community Services (TCS). Schools and Community centers located in Long Island and Queens serve students and individuals in need throughout the 5 boroughs and Long Island.
