Youth Bureau Seeks Community's Help Winning Grant for Garden
Group needs votes to win grant for expansion of organic garden that grows food for local seniors.

The Glen Cove Youth Bureau is asking the community for help securing a grant that would pay for some serious upgrades to its organic farming program.
The proposed "Seeds to Plate" program would have young volunteers growing organic vegetables and herbs to be served for nutritious lunches at the Glen Cove Senior Center.Â
To serve more seniors, the Bureau wants to expand its community garden to include greenhouses and a sustainable hydroponic system.
The agency was selected as a semi-finalist for grants from the Opal Youth Make a Difference Initiative. The apple producer will award seven programs grant money based on the number of votes received through its Facebook page.
"To be an awardee, we need the maximum number of votes. We are asking all community members to help us win this fantastic award," said a statement from the Bureau.
Voting opens Monday, April 29 and continues through June 2. One vote is allowed per person.
