2 Dogs, 7 Cats Rescued From Abandoned SUV In Murray Hill

Rescue workers spotted the animals when the two dogs poked their head out of the sweltering car's window, a rescue worker said.

MURRAY HILL, NY — Rescue workers saved two dogs and seven cats from a sweltering SUV in front of a Murray Hill animal hospital.

Workers at Bideawee at 410 East 38th Street noticed the two energetic dogs, five grown cats and three scrawny kittens abandoned in the hot Jeep Saturday morning at 7 a.m. After a brief wait for the owner to return, workers brought the pooches and felines water and called police, said a representative for the animal rescue.

“When no one came back in 15 minutes they brought the animals water before calling the police," Melissa Treuman with Bideawee told Patch. "Luckily, they look like they're in great shape. It looked like someone was living in that car, there was food in there for the animals and litter boxes for the cats."

Police took the animals, who appear to be in good health, to the ASPCA. A window in the car was cracked open, and the dogs were able to poke their heads out.

Authorities believe someone may have left the animals in front of the rescue on purpose. It was unclear Monday who abandoned the animals, police said.
