Boozy Ice Cream Parlor 'Tipsy Scoop' To Open In Kips Bay
This alcoholic ice cream company is opening a new kind of ice cream parlor — one with a bouncer.

KIPS BAY, NY — The popular alcoholic ice cream company Tipsy Scoop is opening its first brick-and-mortar storefront in Kips Bay and, unlike most corner ice cream spots, you'll be carded when you order a cone.
Tipsy Scoop's ice cream is true to its name: Its inventive flavors are 5 percent alcohol by volume, about the equivalent of a regular, liquid drink. In May, the company will open it's first "barlour," part-bar, part-ice cream parlour.
Unlike other boozy desserts, the alcohol in ice cream doesn't evaporate like it does in cakes or other baked goods. If you want to buy a pint in a grocery store, you'll get carded just like you would if you were buying a case of beer. Thus, the storefront will serve only customers aged 21 and older.

"We need to find a bouncer for the opening," founder Melissa Tavss joked.

The alcohol-laden pints have been for sale in New York grocery stores for a while, but the folks at Tipsy Scoop first started thinking seriously about opening a storefront when interest in the their desserts surged after videos of their boozy take on frozen treats went viral, Tavss told Patch. Fans in search of a storefront started showing at the company's Manhattan production center.

"Our production facility is pretty hard to find and people were showing up there, asking 'Where's the ice cream store?'" Tavss said.
The barlour will have more than 15 different flavors, including retail favorites such as "Cake Batter Vodka Martini" and "Vanilla Bean Bourbon." The store will also have the option of ordering a flight of liquored-up ice creams, and will feature a special rotating flavor that will change regularly and only be available at the store.
The store is scheduled to open on May 7 at 217 E 26th St.
