Building Where Man Crushed To Death To Replace Elevators: Report
Management at a Kips Bay building told residents the building would have lifts replaced following an elevator death, according to a report.

KIPS BAY, NY — After a man was crushed to death by an elevator at a Kips Bay building last week, management told residents it would replace the lifts, according to a report.
NBC News 4 reported that building management told residents in an email that an "imperative analysis" found the building needed elevator upgrades.
Building owners Manhattan Promenade LLC told residents: "Pursuant to the evaluation and recommendations to address the upgrades to existing equipment ... we opted to have all elevator mechanicals and electronics be replaced in their entirety," according to News 4.

The note to residents regarding elevator upgrades comes after Sam Waisbren, 30, of Wisconsin was crushed to death last week after getting caught between the elevator and shaft wall at the building, located at 344 Third Ave. between 25th and 26th streets.
Since then, the Department of Investigation has launched an investigation. Local politicians have also renewed calls for legislation that would require government-regulated trainings for elevator mechanics.

It was not clear when upgrades would take place, though the Department of Buildings told the news channel no upgrades could happen until the investigation is complete since the building needs to have one working elevator.
ATA Enterprises, the management company listed as a representative for the building owner in city records, did not immediately respond to an email or phone call to comment.
