Off-Duty Cop Killed, Woman's Foot Severed In FDR Drive Crash

The NYPD said a car speeding down the FDR Drive mounted the center median early Saturday morning.

KIPS BAY, MANHATTAN — An off-duty police officer was killed and two others seriously injured after a crash on the FDR Drive early Saturday morning that involved a speeding car, Patch has learned.

According to police, around 2:40 a.m., cops responded to a 911 call for a car crash on the FDR Drive at East 23rd Street. A black Lexus Sedan that was speeding north on the highway mounted the center median, ejecting two of the car's passengers, police said.

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, had severe head trauma and was inside the car unconscious and unresponsive. The two passengers, a 25-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were found outside the car with serious injuries, according to police.

The driver was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. A source confirmed to Patch that the driver killed in the crash was an off-duty police officer. Sources told The New York Post the cop was assigned to the 76th Precinct in Carroll Gardens.

The two passengers were said to be in serious but stable condition. Police said the woman injured in the crash had her right foot severed.
