Friend Of A Farmer In Gramercy Shuttered By City For Flies, Mice

Health inspectors slapped Friend of a Farmer in Gramercy with 61 violation points, city records show.

GRAMERCY, NY — A farm-to-table restaurant in Gramercy was shuttered after health inspectors blamed flies and mice, records show.

Friend of a Farmer on Irving Place got slapped with 61 violation points on Wednesday, Health Department records show.

The restaurant was found with cold foods held above 41 degrees, food contaminated or not discarded properly, evidence of mice, flies, food not properly protected from contamination, and food surfaces not washed in accordance to the rules, according to the violations marked "critical."

The facility was also not mice-proof, thawing procedures were done wrong, and other non-food surfaces were not constructed with appropriate materials, according to the department.

An employee who answered a phone call Friday morning said the restaurant was in the process of re-opening, but had no further comment.

On Oct. 3, the department issued 18 violation points to the restaurant due to mice, roaches, flies and other issues, records show. Friend of a Farmer had an A grade back in June.

The all-day restaurant was founded in 1986. It is located at 77 Irving Place near 19th Street.
