HIV Testing Offered In Union Square

Free HIV and sexually transmitted infection testing is available on Tuesday night in Union Square Park.

UNION SQUARE, NY — The city's health department is offering free HIV testing in Union Square Park on June 27 as part of the nationwide HIV Testing Day.

The service will be available in the park from 5 to 8 p.m. Tests for HIV, hepatitis C and other sexually transmitted infections will be offered, plus blood pressure screenings. Earlier in June, the city launched a campaign along with an LGBTQ Bill of Rights to inform residents of their right to quality, non-judgmental healthcare no matter their sexual orientation or identity.

The testing for STIs comes amid a spike in such infections in New York City and around the country. Reported cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis have all reached their highest levels in 30 years in New York City, according to a February analysis by the Independent Budget Office.
