Grad Stuck On Subway During Commencement Has Special Ceremony At Hunter College
The college student who missed his graduation thanks to MTA woes got his diploma before anyone else in a special ceremony on Thursday.

KIPS BAY, NY — After extensive subway delays caused a Hunter College student to miss his graduation, the school is presenting the new grad with his diploma before anyone else in his class.
Jerich Alcantara became a viral celebrity last week when video footage of his impromptu subway graduation ceremony was uploaded to Facebook. Alcantara, a nursing student from Queens, was headed to Hunter's commencement exercises when the now-routine catastrophe of MTA dysfunction struck. Alcantara remained stuck on a stalled E train while his classmates were moving their tassels, so his friends on the train decided to host their very own graduation ceremony inside the car.
On Thursday, Alcantara got another personalized ceremony, and an advance copy of his diploma to boot. Hunter College president Jennifer Raab personally gave Alcantara is diploma to make up for his subway woes. (Want more local news?
