Iconic Union Square Coffee Shop Will Close After 28 Years

The Brazilian-American restaurant, made famous for its role on HBO's "Sex and the City," will close on Oct. 11.

GRAMERCY, NY — The famed Coffee Shop across from Union Square will serve its last cup of joe in October, reported the New York Post.

The Brazilian-American restaurant, made famous for its appearance on HBO's "Sex and the City," will close on Oct. 11 after a 28-year run. The 29 Union Square West eatery's co-owner and president, Charles Milite, broke the news to the New York Post on Thursday, citing ballooning costs and a changing industry for the closure.

“The times have changed in our industry,” Milite told The Post. “The rents are very high and now the minimum wage is going up and we have a huge number of employees.”
