Martin Shkreli Will Stay In Prison Until 2023

MURRAY HILL, NY — Notorious "pharma bro" Martin Shkreli won't be able to return to his Murray Hill pad until October 2023.

Shkreli, who is currently serving a seven-year sentence for defrauding investors, is currently behind bars at the Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey. The Federal Bureau of Prisons recently set his release date as Oct. 18.

This week, Shkreli, 35, was transported from the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center to New Jersey for his imprisonment.

The pharmaceutical executive catapulted himself to infamy in 2015 after he raised the price of the lifesaving drug Daraprim from $13.50 a pill to $750.

Shkreli's securities fraud conviction was unrelated to his price-gouging. He was convicted in August 2017, when a jury concluded that he had defrauded investors in his hedge funds, and lied to obtain investors' money.

Shkreli has been behind bars since September 2017, when a judge revoked his bail after Shkreli offered $5,000 to anyone who could get a lock of Hillary Clinton's hair during her book tour. A judge called Shkreli's bounty offer a "solicitation of assault in exchange for money," and prosecutors said it pointed to a broader pattern of threatening women.

Shkreli, who would frequently post live videos from his Murray Hill apartment, was kicked off of Twitter last year after harassing a female journalist.
