Memorial At 'Brasserie Les Halles' Remembers Anthony Bourdain
People placed notes and flowers outside "Brasserie Les Halles" on Park Avenue South, where Anthony Bourdain worked in the 1990s.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK — As New Yorkers and the world paid tribute to Anthony Bourdain, the celebrity chef who died by suicide on Friday, a memorial grew outside the now shuttered restaurant " Brasserie Les Halles" on Park Avenue South, where Bourdain worked as the executive chef in the 1990s.
People placed flowers and notes outside the restaurant where Bourdain worked when an essay he wrote about kitchen culture titled "Don't Eat Before Reading This" was published by The New Yorker. The essay helped launch Bourdain to become the household name he is today, leading to a book "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures In The Culinary Underbelly" and subsequently his television career.
Both locations of "Les Halles," on Park Avenue South and in the Financial District, are now closed. According to Eater, people also placed flowers in the grates at the FiDi location.

"Thank you for bringing a respectful view to the people of Palestine, Libya, Iran & more," read one note, a photo of which was posted to Twitter. Photos of Bourdain as well as notes containing the national suicide hotline number and messages about ending the stigma surrounding mental health were placed outside the restaurant.
