NYU Surgeon Accused Of Inappropriate Relationships With Patients
A top doctor at NYU's teaching hospital was investigated for "inappropriate relationships" with patients.

KIPS BAY, NY — A top NYU surgeon resigned after being accused of "inappropriate relationships" with patients, the school said.
Dr. Mark Adelman, the chief of vascular surgery at the NYU school of medicine, resigned in April, a spokeswoman for NYU Langone Medical Center confirmed. The spokeswoman said that the school "demanded" Adelman resign following the investigation.
"We are extremely grateful to those who flagged Dr. Adelman's alleged inappropriate behavior," the school said in a statement. "We took swift and immediate action, including conducting a thorough investigation, and consequently demanding Dr. Adelman's resignation."

A current employee of the medical school told BuzzFeed that school officials emphasized that "there's no such thing as a consensual relationship between a doctor and a patient" during a meeting to inform employees of Adelman's resignation.
Adelman is also affiliated with the city's Bellevue Hospital Center, which neighbors the NYU school of medicine's facilities in Kips Bay, according to the hospital's website. The hospital did not immediately respond to questions about whether Adelman was still associated with the Bellevue medical center.
