South Korean Chicken Chain Arrives In Manhattan

KOREATOWN, NY — A popular spicy chicken restaurant based in South Korea opened its first location in the U.S., according to Eater.

Hong Chun Cheon opened on the second floor at 2 W. 32nd St. near Fifth Avenue on Monday, serving dakgalbi, a spicy chicken stir fry dish.

General manager KR Kim told Eater that the spicy chicken restaurant helps bring more diversity of dishes from Korea, rather than just Korean barbecue.

"There's too much barbecue. You want a variety of dishes from Korea," Kim told Eater. The eatery first opened in the 1960s in Chuncheon, South Korea, and now has hundreds of locations across the country. The Koreatown location is its first in the U.S.

The $20 dish chicken stir fry dish serves two. After finishing the spicy chicken, a cheese fried rice dish is served. Seafood and dumplings are also available.

Its hours are 11:30 a.m. to 3 pm. for lunch Monday through Friday and 5 p.m. to midnight for dinner everyday.
