DIX HILLS, NY — A Dix Hills home went up in flames on Sunday night, leading to a large-scale response by firefighters, according to P.I.O. Steve Silverman.
The first firefighters to arrive to the Wildwood Drive home at 9:49 p.m. found a heavy fire in the attached garage spreading to an upstairs bedroom and the attic. Roughly 75 firefighters and emergency medical personnel were at the house with eight trucks and three ambulances. It took firefighters 45 minutes of aggressive attack to put out the flames, with Chief Alan Berkowitz calling the shots.
The group home next door to the fire was evacuated for precautionary reasons. There were no injuries reported, and the fire is being investigated by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Town of Huntington Fire Marshal.
