"Becoming a Solar Specialist" Program for Real Estate Pros

November 9, 2018; Melville, NY – Freedom Mortgage together with Leap EDU will host a New York State Department of State approved program "Becoming a Solar Specialist" on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in Melville. A Solar Specialist is a Licensed Real Estate Professional, Certified by Green EDU, who completely understands that the evolution of homeownership includes solar power. As a result of the Solar Specialist's commitment to their clients' best interests, this designation demonstrates that the real estate professional's ability to best represent those who have solar-powered homes and those considering going solar.
This program was developed to educate real estate professionals about selling homes with solar systems installed on them and to ensure transactions are executed smoothly. Solar energy is a smart investment and there are many benefits for home owners as well as the planet when this clean form of energy is used. However, recent news media reports have demonstrated that it is critical that all professionals involved in real estate transactions receive education and training in order to properly serve their clients.
The next "Becoming a Solar Specialist" program, sponsored by Trinity Solar, will be offered on Tuesday, November 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Freedom Mortgage EDU, 175 Pinelawn Road, Melville, NY 11747. All real estate professionals who attend will receive 3.75 hours of continuing education course credit and the Solar Specialist Seal & Certificate. This program is FREE with advanced registration. "Having a solar system installed on a home reduces energy costs and is a valuable asset which generates clean energy for decades. However, now that tens of thousands of Long Island homes have solar installed on them, it is clear that it is time that real estate professionals learn how to navigate the nuances of these transactions. Educated professionals are better able to value homes and seamlessly complete transactions for buyers as well as sellers," said Christina Mathieson, program creator and instructor.
Many local professionals including attorneys as well as home buyers and sellers are not familiar with the details relating to solar system financing, ownership and other factors. Professionals must understand all aspects of solar energy systems so that they can accurately price homes. Buyers and their representatives must also have the information that they need to make informed bids as well as secure appropriate home loan financing.
The "Becoming a Solar Specialist" program, covers all aspects of home solar including key terminology, understanding electric costs, PV (photovoltaic panels) and other equipment, laws, regulations, incentives (including tax credits and abatements), leasing, financing, purchase agreements and history. The course will be presented by Ms. Mathieson, a licensed real estate professional and the creator of the program.
