Bellone Celebrates ADA Anniversary
County website accessible to visually impaired

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone addressed a crowd in Melville recently celebrating the 25th anniversary of the signing of Americans With Disabilities Act.
Noting that the Suffolk County website, with more than 20,000 pages, is ADA-compliant, he thanked the Department of Information Technology, My Blind Spot, Suffolk Cooperative Library System, SILO and the Town of Brookhaven, for working tirelessly to ensure website was accessible for those who are visually impaired.
The County Executive said the Suffolk County Department of Labor has, as part of its mission, worked to improve educational, training and employment opportunities for the disabled who are unemployed, underemployed or receiving disability benefits. Since October 2014, more than 1,100 people who self-identified as a person with a disability have used a County One-Stop Employment Center for services while seeking work.
