SUV Crashes Through Suffolk Home After Collision

An 83-year-old man's SUV was rear-ended while he was trying to make a turn; the impact knocked his vehicle into the home, police say.

EAST NORTHPORT, NY — Two vehicles collided Thursday night in East Northport, sending one crashing through a home, Suffolk police said.

An 83-year-old man driving a Honda CR-V was rear-ended by a man driving a Honda Accord at 5:50 p.m. when the 83-year-old tried making a left turn onto Ellendale Court from Daly Road, police said. The man lost control of the CR-V and crashed into a home on Ellendale Court, police said.

Several people were home but in a different part of the house at the time of the crash; no one was injured. The 83-year-old was brought to Huntington Hospital with minor injuries. The man driving the Honda Accord was not injured.

The 83-year-old needed to be freed from his car by Commack firefighters, which was done quickly, according to Commack Fire Department.

The Huntington Building Department was notified to evaluate the home for damage. Commack firefighters left by 6:45 p.m.
