Crimes Nearby: Woman Killed In Crash, Holiday Tips Stolen

• Woman Killed in Calverton Crash

Suffolk County Police are investigating a crash on the Long Island Expressway that killed an 82-year old woman in Calverton Tuesday morning.

According to police, Marilyn Mallon was driving her 1998 Honda eastbound on the off ramp of the Long Island Expressway when she entered the intersection and collided with a 1998 GMC traveling southbound on County Road 24 at approximately 10:15 a.m.

Mallon, a Flushing resident, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where she died from her injuries.  The driver of the GMC, Tyler Yaskanich, 18, of Shoreham, suffered minor injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. 

• Gifts For Sanitation Workers Stolen

Suffolk County Police arrested two people on Thursday in separate incidents and charged each with stealing tips left by homeowners for sanitation workers.

According to police, a Poquott homeowner taped a tip to his garbage pail for local sanitation workers and later observed three people in a car pull up, with one person getting out of the vehicle and allegedly taking the money. The homeowner confronted them and they fled, police said.

The homeowner began to follow the individuals and then called 911.

Sixth Precinct Officer Todd Bradshaw was able to locate the vehicle and found one of the occupants, Anthony Williamson, in the driveway of 44 Cobbler Lane, Setauket. Williamson, 20, who resides at that address, was charged with Petit Larceny. The $200 tip was recovered and police said they are still searching for the two other suspects.

In a separate incident, a homeowner on Bucknell Lane in Stony Brook left a note on her garbage pail to inform local sanitation workers that there was a card for them at the front door. Police said the homeowner saw a woman take the note and then take the card. The homeowner confronted the woman, who gave the card back and apologized.

Following a call to police by the homeowner, Officer Sean Keenan was able to locate the suspect, Denise Razzano, 29, of Centereach. She was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny.  The investigation is continuing.

• Suspects Sought In Bellport Store Heist

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the two subjects who police said stole merchandise from a Bellport store.

According to police, two men entered Vanity Fair, located at 10 Farber Drive, and stole jeans and T-shirts on December 11 at approximately 11:20 a.m. The suspects put the merchandise in a duffel bag and fled the store.

The suspects are described by police as Hispanic and were seen leaving in a maroon or dark red Nissan Murano.
