PHILADELPHIA, PA — Tobias Harris, a Dix Hills native and NBA player, recently re-signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.

In order to give back to the community in which he'll be calling home while he plays for the 76ers, and beyond, Harris donated $1 million to nine different charities through what he called a "community draft," ESPN reported.

Counting down from 9 to 1, Harris honored each charity with a donation. In descending order: Team Up Philly and Wyandanch High School each received $25,000; Sunbooks and True Love Mission each received $75,000; the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, the Legends Academy and The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia received $100,000 each; Read By 4th received $200,000; and The Center for Black Educator Development, the draft's "top pick," received $300,000, according to ESPN.

This is not the first time Harris has given back.

In August, Harris came to Westbury to shoot hoops with kids as he brought his basketball camp to the Yes We Can Community Center.

His NBA career began in 2011 after garnering interest prior to the draft. He was selected No. 19 overall by the Charlotte Bobcats (now the Charlotte Hornets), but was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks that night. He has since played for the Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Clippers before landing in Philadelphia after a trade with the Clippers.

The Half Hollow Hills West High School stud inked a five-year contract extension with the 76ers, where he hopes to enjoy the most stability of his NBA career to date.
