2 Pistol-Whipped In Melville Home Invasion: Police

A man demanded cash from a man and woman early Thursday and a struggle ensued, police said.

MELVILLE, NY — There was an armed home invasion in Melville on Thursday morning, according to Suffolk police.

A man entered a New York Avenue home at around 1:20 a.m. and demanded cash from a man and woman, police said. The man displayed a handgun and struck both residents with the weapon, police said. The man struggled with the suspect and the weapon discharged; no one was struck, police said. The burglar then fled the house, police said.

The man and woman were hospitalized for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Detectives believe the home was targeted. The burglar was described as black, with a heavyset build. He was wearing black clothing and a mask, police said.
