Half Hollow Hills National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists Named

Sixteen students from Half Hollow Hills’ two high schools have been named National Merit Scholarship Semi-finalists.

“The accomplishments of these students are amazing,” said Kelly Fallon, Superintendent of Schools for Half Hollow Hills. “Every last one of these students embraces the best of what Half Hollow Hills has to offer – strong academics and a commitment to quality learning environment.”

The semi-finalists from Hills East are Michelle Wang, Shreyas Havaldar, Sachi Patil, Puja Bansal, Brian Levy, Helen Liu, Tyler Fisher, Amanda Luper, Benjamin Sorkin, Rekha Korlipara and Abhinav Patil. Hills West semi-finalists include Kevin Jiempreecha, Max Lee, Sandhiya Kannan, Wasif Islam and Azaria Zornberg.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that started in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screening of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements.

To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, semi-finalists must advance to finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards and all other requirements explained in the information provided to each semi-finalist.
In February, semi-finalists are notified by mail if they have advanced to finalist standing.
