Heavy Fire Breaks Out At Melville Condo Complex

About 75 firefighters responded to the fire on Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters extinguished a heavy fire that broke out at a Melville apartment complex on Thursday afternoon.

The Melville Fire Department responded to The Greens on Adriatic Drive to find a heavy fire condition on the first and second floors in the 16 unit building at 4:10 p.m.

About 75 firefighters and 10 trucks from seven departments responded to the scene and had the fire under control within 40 minutes. Two condo units sustained heavy fire damage. Two other units suffered water and smoke damage.

There were no injuries and all residents left the residences prior to firefighters' arrival.

Melville firefighters were assisted by the Dix Hills, Huntington Manor, Plainview, East Farmingdale, Farmingdale and Wyandanch fire departments. Units were under the command of Chief Chris Nolan and First Assistant Chief David Kaplan

The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire, according to PIO Steve Silverman.
