Long Island Weather: The Latest on Tuesday's Winter Storm

Snow total estimates have changed as well as the storm timeline.

Snow total estimates for Tuesday's storm have inched up slightly and there's now concerns that the winter weather will impact the Tuesday morning commute.

Light snow is expected to develop just before daybreak on Long Island Tuesday, the National Weather Service says. The snow, likely mixing with sleet, could come down at a rate of up to an inch an hour later in the morning. The snow will transition over to a snow/rain mix by the early afternoon before eventually turning to all rain by sunset, the NWS says.

The latest snowfall total estimate maps predict accumulations of 3-4 inches in Nassau County, 2-3 inches in western Suffolk County and 1-2 inches on the East End.

Reduced visibilities and snow/ice covered roadways will likely create hazardous travel conditions during both the morning and evening commutes Tuesday, the NWS says.

Here's the hour-by-hour forecast starting at 8 p.m. Monday:
