DIX HILLS, NY — Robert Fried, a Dix Hills man and the grandson of four Holocaust survivors, wrote a book of poems based on his grandparents' experiences during the Holocaust. The book is named "From Generation To...".

Fried wrote the collection of poems during his childhood after growing up on stories from his grandparents.

"The book, 'From Generation To...', allows us to reflect about those who were victimized, during Monday's Holocaust Remembrance Day," Fried told Patch.

The story also includes biographies of Fried's grandmothers and family photos, he said. It also contains information on other initiatives Fried has undertaken in honor of his grandparents; especially his paternal grandmother, who is alive.

Books are available in paperback, on Amazon, Amazon Kindle, and through Barnes & Noble. The "From Generation To..." website also has lapel pins and black embroidered polo shirts for sale at $10 and $30 respectively.

According to Fried, all proceeds from shop purchases support the "From Generation To..." Interview Project. Fried launched the project as a way to provide ongoing financial support to The Jewish Museum In Prague, allowing the museum to increase the number of interviews it can conduct in its efforts to record the oral histories of Holocaust survivors.

The illustration of the lapel pin and shirt represent the logo of the "From Generation To..." Interview Project. The logo depicts Fried in his youth and his paternal grandmother, in her youth, just after she survived the Holocaust. They are lighting memorial candles, together, to remember Holocaust victims. The flames from each of their matches are merged, symbolizing the important responsibility of both generations to keep the flame alive in remembrance, according to the website.

Fried's paternal grandfather was Israel Fried (Saba), his maternal grandmother was Magda Herskowitz (Babi) and his maternal grandfather was Moshe Herskowitz (Zaide). They died in 1997, 2003 and 2008 respectively.
