Melville Company Awarded $42.7M Army Contract

Through the contract, the company will work to sustain a worldwide military communications system.

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. in Melville was awarded a $42.7 million 5-year army contract, the company announced last week.

The contract will allow Comtech to continue to provide sustainment support for the U.S. Army's Project Manager Mission Command Blue Force Tracking program, which is a battle command real-time situational awareness and control system.

Comtech, located at 68 South Service Road, supplies satellite-based packet data communication systems and location and messaging services.

"We are pleased that Comtech has again been selected to work together with the U.S. Army to sustain this critical worldwide military communications system,” Fred Kornberg, Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said in a press release. “The award of this contract further demonstrates the ongoing importance of the U.S. Army's BFT-1 satellite tracking communication system."

Under the contract, Comtech will offer engineering services, satellite network operations and program management through a Firm Fixed Price and a Time & Materials contract with Cost Reimbursement CLINs.

The base performance period, which is valued at $8 million, began April 15 and ends April 17, 2018. The U.S. Army has placed an initial funded order of $3.5 million under this contract. Comtech also looks to receive an additional order shortly to fully fund the base year.
