Long Island Snow Total Estimates Inch Up, Timeline Shifts
The latest on how much snow is coming today and when it's expected to stop.

Snow began to overspread Long Island Saturday morning with the fast-moving system now expected to drop up to 5 inches on parts of the region.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for the entire island with the exception of northern Nassau County until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. A total of 2-4 inches of snow is likely for Suffolk County with the potential for 5 inches on the East End. Nassau is expected to see 2-3 inches of accumulation.

A period of moderate snow is likely during the afternoon into the early evening. Brief snowfall rates of a half-inch to an inch per hour are possible. The snow should taper off from west to east in the evening.

The next chance for snow will come Wednesday night into Thursday. The NWS says forecast models have been wavering on the potential for a significant coastal storm during that period. Stay tuned for updates and sign up for Patch news and weather alerts if you aren't already subscribed.
