Man Indicted For Fleeing Scene Of Limo Crash That Hurt 6: DA

All five limousine passengers and the driver were injured. Four of them suffered serious injuries.

A man was indicted Friday for fleeing the scene after crashing into a limousine, which injured six people, in Melville over the summer, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini.

The DA determined that 28-year-old Wyandanch resident Jaquan Carr struck the limousine after a DNA analysis connected him to blood found on the airbag of the Mercedes Benz he left at the scene on Sunday, July 1, authorities say. Paperwork in the vehicle also matched Carr's name, the DA says.

“This is a classic case of ‘you can run, but you can’t hide,’” Sini said in a press release. “Great work by Assistant District Attorneys Jacob DeLauter and Sean MacDonnell and detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Second Squad in conducting a thorough investigation of the evidence to bring charges against [Carr].”

According to the DA, Carr was driving a 2012 Mercedes Benz sedan eastbound on Wilmington Drive near Chiswell Drive when he veered into westbound traffic and struck a 2014 Lincoln limousine carrying five people home from a wedding at 1:30 a.m., the DA says.

Carr allegedly fled the scene of the crash in a separate vehicle.

Carr, at his arraignment, was charged with four counts of second-degree assault, four counts of leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree reckless driving and reckless driving.

Bail was set at $75,000 cash or $150,000 bond. Carr is due back in court on Feb. 5.

He faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
