MDA Lock-Up Fundraiser To Be Held At Jewel
Event set for October 30 at popular Melville restaurant.

Business and civic leaders from across Melville will be put behind bars at the end of October, but all for a good cause.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association will hold its Lock-Up fundraiser on Tuesday, October 30, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Jewel Restaurant in Melville.
Several volunteer jailbirds will be locked up and released only when they can make bail. Each jailbird’s bail is set at $2,400 and organizers said the goal of the event is to raise a total of $25,000.

The MDA assists jailbirds in creating personalized Lock-Up donation websites to help raise their bail ahead of time on-line. The links for these websites can be e-mailed to friends, family and co-workers who are able to make donations on-line.
Lock-Ups are one of MDA’s signature fundraising programs, benefiting local individuals living with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related progressive muscle diseases in the Nassau and Suffolk areas.

The event at Jewel also will help send local children ages 6-17 to a special week sleep-away MDA summer camp in Spring Valley, N.Y. Youngsters with muscle diseases, as well as volunteers, enjoy a wide variety of activities designed specifically for youngsters with limited mobility. Some activities include swimming, fishing, sports, and arts and crafts.
