Officer Involved In Crash While Responding To Crash In Melville

The incidents occurred on Thursday morning.

A police officer was involved in a crash that injured two people while responding to a four-vehicle overturn crash in Melville on Thursday morning.

According to fire officials, the initial crash involved two parked cars and one vehicle that overturned on its roof in the parking lot of Blink Fitness, located on Pinelawn Road and Broad Hollow Road, at 8:30 a.m. The driver of the overturned vehicle declined medical assistance and no further injuries were reported.

About 25 firefighters and rescue personnel responded to the scene with four ambulances, heavy rescue truck, fire police, first responder and paramedic unit. Units were under the direction of Chiefs David Kaplan and Bill Schmitt.

While responding to the incident, a Suffolk Police car was involved in a crash, which injured two people, in front of Blackstone Steakhouse on Pinelawn Road. The officer was taken to Huntington Hospital and the driver of the second car was taken to Plainview Hospital by Melville Rescue Squad ambulances. They both suffered minor injuries, according to PIO Steve Silverman.
