REPORT: Grand Jury Investigating Melville-based Comtech

Bloomberg also reports that company CEO has lost U.S. security clearance.

Melville-based Comtech Telecommunications is under investigation by a United States Grand Jury and its chief executive officer has lost his U.S. security clearance, Bloomberg Businessweek reported on Thursday.

According to the report, the company in a regulatory filing said it believes the investigation stems from contact company CEO Fred Kornberg made with a “scientific attaché” to discuss sales of equipment to Israel during the 1980s.  That attaché was “alleged to have conducted intelligence operations in the U.S.,” Bloomberg reported, citing the company’s filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Bloomberg reported that Kornberg’s clearance was suspended in August.

The report also indicated that Comtech has recently completed internal organizational realignments to allow the company to remain eligible for some governmental contracts. In the SEC filing, the company said the changes restrict access to classified information to other Comtech senior executives, management and other employees who maintain the required level of clearance.

Comtech designs, develops, produces and markets products, systems and services for advanced communications solutions.
