Shirley Man Steals BMW At Gunpoint: Suffolk Police

The man approached two people and demanded their BMW early Wednesday, police say. The man tried to flee from officers, police say.

MELVILLE, NY — A man was arrested after Suffolk police said he stole a vehicle at gunpoint in Melville and fled police on Wednesday morning.

Two people were approached in the parking lot of Cirella’s Restaurant, at 14 Broadhollow Road, at 12:45 a.m. by Jahmohri Mitchell, 21, of Shirley, who was armed with a gun, police said. Mitchell demanded their car, police said. The two complied and Mitchell drove off in the vehicle, police said.

Fifth Precinct officers saw the vehicle, a 2005 BMW X3, on Long Island Avenue in Medford and tried to pull over the car, but Mitchell would not stop, police said. Officers used stop sticks on Mill Road in Medford, and Mitchell then ran off, police said. Officers caught Mitchell after a foot chase, and he was taken into custody at 1:32 a.m., police said.

Mitchell was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.

Mitchell will be held at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
