Long Island Weather: Snow Chance This Weekend
We could see some snow just a couple days after near record high temperatures.

Enjoy some time outside Thursday as temperatures climb into the mid-50s across Long Island because it will certainly feel like winter again by the time the weekend arrives.
The daily record high for Jan. 12 at Long Island MacArthur Airport is 58 degrees (set in 1995) and we will likely come close to that Thursday, with a high near 55, the National Weather Service said.
Friday will be sunny, but cooler, with a high near 43. Saturday is when we could see some potential snow.

"The models have consistently been bringing an arctic airmass across eastern Canada over the weekend, with the cold air bleeding southward into the forecast area," the NWS said in a forecast discussion Thursday morning.
The NWS says there's a 50 percent chance of light snow on Saturday.

"Accumulations have been kept at less than an inch for now," the NWS said. "The main reasons for this are that 1) actual liquid equivalents are still uncertain this far out, and 2) snowfall rates may just be too low, even if it snows for several hours, to result in accumulations."
The high temperature on Saturday will be about 32 degrees. Sunday should be dry with high near 40.
The map below shows the odds of more than an inch of snow falling in various areas.
