QUEENS, NY — Matthew Stockfeder, a co-captain of the St. John’s University men’s lacrosse team from Melville, stabbed his roommate in the gut, officials said according to multiple reports. Stockfeder, 21, stabbed 23-year-old Justin Corpolongo, a 2018 alumnus, around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to reports by Newsday and the New York Post.

Stockfeder woke Corpolongo up by playing loud music in their Queens apartment, with Corpolongo telling him to shut it off, sources told the Post. Stockfeder left to hang out with his teammates who lived at a home two blocks away on 172nd Street around 73rd Avenue in Flushing, the NY Post reported. Stockfeder repeatedly texted Corpolongo, which led to him showing up to the house, police and sources told the Post. A fight eventually led to Stockfeder stabbing Corpolongo in the abdomen, the Post reported.

Stockfeder stabbed Corpolongo hard enough that he penetrated his small intestine, US Lacrosse Magazine reported.
