Tire Flies Onto Woman's Car On Long Island Expressway

BREAKING: The woman was injured when a vehicle's tire fell off and flew over the divider, striking her car, police say.

DIX HILLS, NY — A woman was injured when a tire came off a vehicle, flew over the divider, and hit her car on the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills on Wednesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

A Cadillac sedan was traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway at exit 51 when the car lost a tire around 1:30 p.m., police said. The tire went over the wall and struck the roof and windshield of an eastbound 2008 Hyundai, driven by a woman, police said. The Hyundai came to a stop when a man in an SUV, in front of the Hyundai, slowed his SUV down, police said.

The woman was brought to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
