Vespa Driver Killed In Melville Crash
A Jeep driver was trying to turn into a driveway when the vehicle was hit by a Vespa Scooter, police say.
MELVILLE, NY — A Vespa driver was killed in a collision with a Jeep on Wednesday evening in Melville, Suffolk police said.
A 63-year-old Dix Hills man was driving a Jeep northbound on Walt Whitman Road, near Express Drive South, and tried to make a right-hand turn into a driveway, police said. His Jeep was hit by a 2021 Vespa Scooter that was attempting to pass on the right side just before 6:50 p.m., police said.
The Vespa driver was pronounced dead at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, police said. Police are withholding his ID until next of kin are notified.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
