Watch: Mic Grabbed During Rep. Suozzi Q&A As Tensions Boil Over
Tempers flared in the audience when a woman asked Rep. Tom Suozzi about his campaign donors.
DIX HILLS, NY — Things got heated at U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi's Q&A at Dix Hills Jewish Center Tuesday evening, new video shows.
Alethea Shapiro, a Roslyn constituent, began asking the Democratic congressman a question about accepting money from corporate donors and super PACs. Shapiro, who in the video described herself as a "very, very progressive Democrat," criticized Suozzi in the build-up to her question. She continued until a man stood up and tried to wrestle the microphone away from her.
"Do not take the microphone from me," Shapiro yelled. "I have a right to speak."

Shapiro wrote in a statement on Facebook that she was "terrified," but wanted to get her question out there.
"As I was returning to my seat, several of the men in the audience started shouting comments such as 'WRITE HIM A LETTER!' and others, in efforts to silence me," she said.
Shapiro said she volunteered on Suozzi's 2018 reelection campaign and has served as a field captain.
Suozzi's campaign declined to comment.
