Long Island Woman Killed In Northern State Parkway Crash

The woman's car overturned and struck a tree when she lost control after rear-ending another car Wednesday morning, police say.

DIX HILLS, NY — A woman was killed in a car crash Wednesday morning on the Northern State Parkway, New York State Police said.

Katherine A. Wiski, 47, of Smithtown, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer around 9:25 a.m. heading eastbound east of Exit 42 when she collided into the back of a 2012 Volkswagen driven by a 57-year-old Dix Hills woman, police said. After hitting the back of the Volkswagen, Wiski lost control of her car, causing it to overturn and crash into a tree, police said. Wiski died at the scene, while the other woman wasn't injured, police said.

State police asked anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to call 631-756-3300.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the crash with three ambulances, two heavy rescue trucks, paramedic and first responder units that were dispatched and under the direction of Chief Alan Berkowitz and Third Assistant Chief Scott DiPino, according to public information officer Steve Silverman.
