CHC Bake Sale Aims to Help Kids in Need

While children are heading back to school and their very busy schedules of school, sports, homework and playdates, many are also baking up a plan toget involved with community service.

Reaching out to children throughout Westchester and Fairfield County, The Children’s Hope Chest is asking kids to get involved in its first annual, “Recipe for Hope” fundraiser. The event will have children setting up bake sales across the county to raise awareness and support for children in need.

Recipe for Hope will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22. Children are encouraged to get a group of friends together to bake cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc. and set up shop in front of stores, on ball fields or even at the end of their driveways.

They can register online at www.childrenshopechest.com to get a Recipe for Hope kit, which includes a t-shirt, Children’s Hope Chest brochure and sample recipes and scripts for their bake sale.

Children are also encouraged to provide a nut-free baked option. All of the proceeds from the bake sales will be given to The Children’s Hope Chest and used to support its mission of providing help and offering hope to children in our community suffering from poverty, abuse, neglect and illness.

To celebrate all of the volunteers’ efforts, The Children’s Hope Chest will be hosting a pizza party, complete with fun games and a DJ. The party will be heldat The Purchase Community Center from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“In addition to helping those in need, The Children’s Hope Chest strives to increase social action by promoting adult and youth volunteerism,” said Susan Nangle, co-President of the organization. “We are excited that this program will get so many young people out to help others.”

Many local bakeries have helped support this program by becoming an eventsponsor.

These include:

Tazza Café and Beascakes iBakery and Breads inArmonk, Cerbones Rye Ridge Pastry Shop in Rye Brook, Standing Room Only,Cooked, Lange’s Deli and Patisserie Salzburg in Scarsdale, White Plains BakeShoppe in White Plains and Magnolia Bakery in New York City.

Additionally, the following establishments will be donating pizza for the after party: Nonna’s Pizza in White Plains and Silver Lake Pizzeria in West Harrison,

The Children’s Hope Chest is a local grass-roots organization comprised of concerned individuals who wish to promote volunteerism and good will in an effort to help lift despair among local children in need.

By creating programs and encouraging the participation of children, CHC strives to offer hope to these children. They partner with established organizations that are already helping local needy families to provide them with items that are not provided by any other resource.
