As a reminder, New York's plastic bag ban begins on March 1, 2020. It’s estimated that an excess of 23 million plastic bags are typically used each year in New York State. The new law aims at reducing pollution in an effort to protect our environment, including area water sources and wildlife.

Residents are encouraged to do their part in using reusable bags whenever possible. They come in a variety of materials and are easy to use.

In recognition of the season preceding Lent, I recently joined the Seniors as they celebrated Carnival. Those in attendance wore brilliantly colored beads and enjoyed music, lively conversation and a delicious meal. This annual event is an indication that spring is on its way and, although we have had a comparatively mild winter so far, I’m sure that all who attended the celebration are eager for the warmer weather that’s yet to come.

Please note the following February sanitation schedule change: Town Hall will be closed on Monday, February 17 th in honor of President’s Day.

In closing, please make note of the following public health reminder: In an effort to be courteous, dog walkers should carry disposable waste bags and clean up after their pets. Used dog waste bags should not be left in neighbors' trash cans or recycling bins and should not be thrown into the storm drains on our streets and roadways. Proper disposal of dog waste is required and every dog owner must participate.
