George Dadakis , 99, of Harrison, Passed Away Dec. 3

George Dadakis , 99, of Harrison, NY and Delray Beach, FL, died peacefully on December 3, 2015.

George was born on August 23, 1916 and grew up in Mount Vernon, NY. He graduated from MIT with a degree in electrical engineering in 1939 and served in the army during WWII, attaining the rank of major. While stationed in Detroit, he met Lois McKenzie whom he married on February 5, 1944. After the war, he and Lois moved back to New York where they raised their three children.

George was an entrepreneur, starting Dollar Radio before he went to college, fixing radios. After the War, and during the 1050’s, he expanded it into a retail appliance store with four locations. Later he became an investor in real estate. George was an avid collector of antique cars, owning a Model A, a Model T Truck, a Chrysler Touring Car, a Cord, and a Rolls Royce.

After living in their home in Harrison, NY, for fifty years, he and Lois moved to the Westchester Country Club. George was a member of the Westchester Country Club for almost 60 years. He served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Club, but was in his prime as the Chair of the Beach Committee.

While in retirement, you would find him every summer day sitting at his Cabana #1. Lois and George wintered in Delray Beach, Florida.

Lois predeceased George in 2008. He is survived by his children, Roberta Dadakis Mikus (Norman), Tom, and John (Patty); his grandchildren, Jackie, Chryssi Mikus, Alex (Cassie), and Ryan; and his great-grandson, Will.

Visitation on Thursday, 4-8pm, at Graham Funeral Home, 1036 Boston Post Road, Rye, NY. Funeral on Friday, 10:30am, at the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Savior, 2195 Westchester Ave, Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in George’s name to the Salvation Army.
