Girl Scouts Serve Community; Car Thefts In Downtown Harrison
Don't forget that curb side leaf collection is in effect, said Mayor Rob Belmont.

From Mayor Ron Belmont
I would like to take this opportunity to, once again, express my appreciation for the support I received on Election Day. I look forward to serving the residents of Harrison, for another term, as Mayor/Supervisor on Harrison’s Town Board. It has been an honor to represent you and I will do my best to make your concerns my concerns. There have been many successes over the last several years but we still have work to do. As we look to the future, and face the challenges that lie ahead, I would like to encourage all of our residents to get involved. The Town Board and I will continue to do everything we can to serve the interests of the Town/Village of Harrison so please come out and support the many exciting events that will take place over the coming years.
President Eisenhower dedicated November 11th as Veterans Day in 1954 and requested that all American citizens participate. Veterans Day is observed nationwide and this year, as in every year, Harrison’s Veterans Day Parade recognized the sacrifices of all of our veterans, from every branch of the Armed Forces. Respecting the contributions of veterans serves as a reminder of the commitment made to strengthening the values of our great nation. It was a wonderful display of patriotism and I was happy to see our residents take part in this time honored tradition.

Recently, the Harrison Girl Scouts donated baskets to local hospitals to honor the birthday of GSUSA founder Juliette Gordon Low. The baskets were given to baby girls born on, or near, Juliette's October 31st birthday. The baskets included baby care essentials, outfits and books.
The Girl Scouts are planning other community service projects in the coming months:
Thanksgiving baskets for the Harrison Food Pantry, a PJ and book drive for children in foster care and a supplies drive for The New Rochelle Humane Society.

The Harrison Girl Scouts always welcome new scouts and leaders and also welcome members of the community who have a special skill that they would like to share with the girls. If you are interested in having your child join the Scouts, or if you would like to volunteer, please contact HarrisonGirlScouts@yahoo.com.
In response to several car thefts in Downtown Harrison, I would like to invite all residents to attend our community meeting on Saturday, November 16th at 9:30 AM in Town Hall. I urge residents to properly secure their vehicles at all times. Many break-ins are the result of people leaving their vehicles unlocked. Reported cases involve thieves going through neighborhoods, pulling on door handles to see what cars have been left unlocked. I am asking residents to be vigilant about locking their car doors and also reporting any suspicious activity they may see in their neighborhoods.
“Call to Stewardship” will be the theme of the 2019 Annual Thanksgiving Service sponsored by the Interfaith Congregational Laymen’s Committee of Harrison (ICLC), to be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. at The Greek Orthodox Church of Our Savior in Rye. As religions are diverse, vibrant and steeped in traditions, the aim of the ICLC has always been to encourage acceptance and understanding of the essential belief systems and practices of each faith. Each year, the Committee extends an invitation, to the entire Harrison community, to become familiar with and celebrate the richness and value in all faiths. All are welcome.
In closing, please be aware that curb side leaf collection is in effect.
Leaves should be left at curb side only. Do not place leaves in the street as this may cause both a safety hazard and potential for clogging drains. Brush and sticks must not be mixed in with leaf piles, but kept separately in tied bundles. Leaves that are mixed with brush and sticks will not be picked up until the pile is properly segregated.
