'Great To Live In Harrison' Parade, Tying The Town Pink
The library seeks candidates for its board, a visit from the mobile shredder and the next lunch with the mayor are column topics.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and, during this month, institutions, organizations, and citizens across the globe join together to display the color pink in an effort to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer. I would like to take this time to acknowledge Harrison resident Kris Kelly and Soul Ryders, an organization that provides support locally to victims of cancer. For the last several years, they have been running a “tying the town pink” event during the month of October. The Town/Village of Harrison has added pink ribbons to municipal light posts along Halstead Avenue and at several locations in West Harrison’s business district. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I encourage all Harrison residents to join this effort and do their part in raising awareness of the ongoing battle.
The Harrison Fire Department inspection and dinner was held last weekend and I am happy to report that the condition of the Department’s apparatus is first rate. The entire Department should be commended for their hard work and commitment. This year, the Department and the Town recognized Joseph Gasperino, Jr. for his fifty years of unwavering dedication to our community. It was truly a memorable evening and an honor to be included.

I recently joined County Executive, George Latimer at the Gold Star Mother’s & Families Memorial Tribute at Kensico Plaza. It was a privilege to be there as Gold Star Mothers and Families, who lost a son or daughter in service to our country, were recognized for their child’s ultimate sacrifice.
These honored guests serve as a solid support system for all those who have suffered similar losses and it was not only an honor to witness their courage and generosity, but an opportunity to celebrate the lives that were lost.
As a reminder, Westchester County Mobile Shredder will be in Harrison this weekend.
