Harrison Suspends Some Senior Activities: Mayor's Column
The annual townwide annual Spring Spruce Up event is March 28. Here's how to volunteer.

From Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont
As our medical community and elected officials plan strategies to protect the public from the spread of Coronavirus, please keep in mind that the risk of becoming infected remains low. Taking common sense precautionary measures, similar to what is recommended to avoid the common cold, is still the best line of defense.
That being said, all Harrison municipal buildings are currently opened. Both the Recreation Center and Community Center are currently opened for all residents but please note the following schedule adjustments for our senior citizen programs: Senior Lunch Program will continue. Bingo, Monday/Tuesday Mahjong, Wednesday Game Day, and Thursday Canasta will be suspended until further notice.

In looking ahead, and thinking about the spring with great anticipation, I would like to bring your attention to this year’s annual Spring Spruce Up event. This year, Westchester County has initiated a county-wide clean up event “Big Clean Westchester” and Harrison is participating. Please join the Town/Village of Harrison by coming out to show your support on Saturday, March 28th (rain date April 4th ).
We will be tidying up our roadways, parks, wooded areas and streams. Target areas in Downtown Harrison include Ma Riis Park, Veteran’s Park, the stream behind LMK Middle School, Beaver Swamp Brook Corridor, Century Trail and West Street (in the vicinity of the I-95 Bridge). Target areas in West Harrison include various locations around Silver Lake and Underhill Avenue, Locust Avenue, Main Street River corridor and the Village Green.

Feel free to contact the Mayor’s Office with additional areas that may need attention.
Clean up crew leaders will be at all locations and will provide lawn bags and instructions for sprucing up. Come full of energy and prepared to make a difference. For more information or to volunteer, please call Megan Pierroz in the Engineer’s Office at (914) 670-3078. Take pride in Harrison’s appearance and pitch in!!
Harrison is fortunate to have a variety of excellent pre-school programs. To avoid the rush, please be aware that our area pre-schools may be accepting applications for families interested in the fall 2020 programs (2020-2021 school year). To avoid being excluded, contact any one of our excellent early childhood organizations (Harrison Children’s Center, St. Gregory the Great, Harrison Presbyterian Nursery School, Purchase Children’s Center, and Memorial Community Church Nursery School, to name a few).
Please join the Harrison Public Library for a "Meet the Memoir Writers" event held in honor of Women's History Month. The event will take place on Monday, March 30th at 7 pm at the Jewish Community Center of Harrison (130 Union Avenue, Harrison, NY 10528). Hear firsthand accounts about the amazing women who challenged and changed the lives of authors Camilla Calhoun, Marlena Maduro Baraf and Susan Rudnick. A Q&A and book signing will follow the discussion. It promises to be an exceptional evening. For more information, please visit www.harrisonpl.org .
