Harrison Woman In Police Standoff

The incident ended after about five hours, police said.

HARRISON, NY — A standoff between Harrison police and a woman barricaded at her home ended peacefully, police said.

Police were called to Oak Street at about 9 a.m. Monday about a person having an emotional crisis who was also potentially armed with a handgun.

The first responding Harrison police officers began a dialogue with the resident, who had barricaded herself inside and refused to open the door.

"Our primary concern was for the health and safety of this person who was in crisis,” Chief Joseph J. Yasinski said. “I commend all the officers involved for the professionalism and skill they demonstrated to bring the matter to a conclusion without injury to anyone.”

Harrison officers and members of the Westchester County Police Hostage Negotiation Team calmed the 30-year-old and convinced her to surrender without incident at about 2 p.m., police said.

A licensed handgun was recovered from the residence, police said.
