HHS Boys Varsity Tennis Team Finishes Season at Columbia University
Three teams compete at Conference Tournament and one doubles team advances to Sectionals
The Harrison High School Varsity Tennis team advanced to the finals of the prestigious Jim San Marco Boys’ Tennis Invitational held at Columbia University’s Dick Savitt Tennis Center against Manhattan’s Trinity School. The tournament, which began in late March, consisted of sixteen teams from Westchester, Long Island, and Manhattan. Harrison advanced to the finals by beating last year’s finalist Byram Hills and Trinity advanced by beating Long Island’s Half Hollow Hills West. The Huskies were very competitive in the three doubles matches and third singles match but ultimately lost to Trinity.
The Varsity team finished the season with a record of 10-7. Harrison sent three teams to the Conference tournaments. Senior Matt Miles and freshman Tucker Martino advanced to the semifinals, where they were beaten by the eventual New York State Doubles Champions from Mamaroneck. The duo finished tied for third place in the Conference and advanced to the Section 1 tournament held at Harrison High School. Miles and Martino advanced to the quarterfinals of the Sectional tournament for the second consecutive year where they were beaten by the Wei brothers from Horace Greeley – fourth place finishers in the New York State Doubles Championships.
Junior Akshat Sanghavi and eighth grader Matt Dugoff also had an outstanding Conference tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals and consolation match. Sophomore Adam Alper and eighth grader Ben Lubowitz were eliminated in the first round of conference play. Both teams are eager for next year’s season to begin.
