LifeRing Begins Sunday Support Meeting For Recovering Addicts, Alcoholics

HARRISON, NY — LifeRing Secular Recovery, which sponsors self-help group meetings, has begun a new meeting for any alcoholics and drug users who are looking for support to help them remain clean and sober.

The new LifeRing meeting is free to all and is held at St. Vincent’s Hospital, 275 North Street in Harrison, NY, every Sunday at 1:00 pm in the Ben Duffy Room.

LifeRing sees itself as helpful to those who are independent and self-reliant, though its attendees often go to other support groups also.

LifeRing is distinguished from some other support groups because there are no sponsors, though group members can exchange contact information if they want.

Its meetings are secular, with no talk of a higher power, religion, or prayer, since LifeRing sees the power to get clean and sober inside each person (the "sober self").

There are no “steps” because people are encouraged to find their own path and to use the group process as a workshop for that purpose.

At every meeting, each person talks about the highlights and heartaches of their past week and their plans for the coming week, and conversation ("cross-talk") among the meeting’s participants is strongly encouraged.

Those using medically-indicated drugs to support their recovery are welcomed, and those who have relapsed are not considered to be back to the beginning of their recovery.

LifeRing is a national and international network of support groups for people who want to live free of alcohol and other addictive drugs with a 20-year history of helping its attendees. Its meetings are run by contemporaries recovering from their own addictions to alcohol or drugs.
