Line of Blue on 5th Avenue for Lemm's Funeral
Air National Guardsman Joseph Lemm, a Harrison resident and NYPD detective, was killed by a suicide bomber Dec. 21 in Afghanistan.
West Harrison resident Joseph Lemm, killed in Afghanistan on his third deployment as a member of the Air National Guard, was laid to rest Wednesday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla after a funeral at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan.
New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton delivered the eulogy.
“Today we say farewell to a hero of our time, and a hero for all ages, a patriot who centered his life on protecting others,” Bratton said, according to the New York Daily News.

He also posthumously promoted Joseph Lemm to NYPD Detective First Grade, according to the NYPD.
Ryan Lemm, the 4-year-old son of the NYPD Detective who was a technical sergeant with the 105th Base Defense Squadron based in Newburgh, saluted his father’s coffin on the steps of St. Patrick’s. In addition to his son, Lemm is survived by his wife, Christine, and 17-year-old daughter, Brook.
