Man Threw His Shooting Victim Out Of A Van On I-95
The trail, including a photo of the U-Haul van on I-95, led police to the man who had rented it.
HARRISON, NY — A Bronx man was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for attempted murder and other charges in the case of a gunshot victim found bleeding on I-95 in Harrison.
County Court Judge Anne Minihan sentenced Jamil Fields Tuesday, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced. A jury in July had found him guilty. He was sentenced to:
- Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class B violent felony–20 years in state prison
- Assault in the First Degree, a class B violent felony–20 years in state prison
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C felony–12 years in state prison
He was also sentenced to five years post-release supervision on each count. All sentences are to run concurrently.

On July 18, 2017, New York State Police and other emergency personnel were called to I-95 northbound in Harrison for a reported collision. North of Exit 18B they found a man on the side of the interstate being cared for by civilians. The victim had injuries including multiple gunshot wounds.
In fact, investigators found, the victim had been shot while in a U-Haul van with Arizona plates traveling northbound on I-95. He was then thrown out.

The trail, including a photo of the van on I-95, led police to Fields, who had rented the U-Haul van in which the victim was shot. On July 22, police found Fields, who was still in possession of the van.
